Two nights ago, Adam and I watched The Leo Baker Story on Netflix. It's Directed by Nicola Marsh and Giovanni Reda; Leo's story is told so eloquently. Over the past two years, change has happened for everyone. How we live, work, and understand gender and inclusivity constantly evolves; unfortunately, those changes happen publicly for some, and they face unnecessary commentary and criticism.
The narrative tells the story of Leo's struggles coming out. From his rise in Skateboarding to the constant reinforcement of Leo's assigned gender, how that impacted his career, and his decision to come out and delay his transition. Don't worry; the doco doesn't solely focus on the painful moments; While it does focus on them for long enough to offer an important glimpse into the daily injustice that many trans people face. The overall message celebrates Leo and his sponsors supporting his identity choice and hopefully that opens a positive space for the once heteronormative industry to evolve and embrace the gender spectrum.
So if you are scrolling through the infinite Netflix list for something excitingly different, unique and ultimately empowering and inspiring, don't skip Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story.
